Mrs Sue Clifford, Headmistress
High March is a long established, high achieving, non-selective preparatory school with inspirational and nurturing teaching staff who instil a love of learning into all aspects of the school day.
The children are motivated to learn and, as a result, excellent academic results are achieved in both the County 11+ selection tests and in the entrance examinations to a range of independent senior schools.
We aim to educate "the whole child" by offering a broad and rich curriculum in which the children are encouraged to excel in the softer subjects of Art and Technology, Drama, Music and Sport. Girls are taught in small classes by enthusiastic, inspirational and caring teachers. The School enjoys excellent facilities with specialist teaching suites for Art and Technology, Drama, ICT, Music and Sport.
A family school in every sense, we seek to ensure that every pupil is happy and fulfilled in all areas of school life. Excitement is generated by participation in our extensive extra-curricular programme and educational visits.
In the summer of 2019 we were inspected by the Independent Schools' Inspectorate (ISI), who found that High March was fully compliant, meeting all of the Independent School Standards. In addition the Inspectors looked at the quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements and also the quality of the pupils’ personal development. Although Ofsted uses grades such as ‘outstanding’, it should be noted that ISI grade descriptors are different and schools can be graded as ‘excellent’, ‘good’, ‘sound’ or ‘unsatisfactory’. We are delighted that High March was graded at the highest level possible as ISI judged both the quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements and also the quality of the pupils’ personal development as ‘excellent’.
