On Sunday 12th March we took a team of six girls to Malvern College for the National Preparatory Schools' Cross-Country Championships. The team consisted of Agatha, Ella B, Ella C, Catherine W, Taya and Taliya. The girls ran a challenging 2 kilometre course through fields, streams and up some steep banks. They performed exceptionally well showing strength and stamina throughout the run. The team have been training hard before school for this event and it proved that putting in the training really does pay off.
A special mention goes to Taya who had never competed in a cross-country event before but nevertheless showed excellent pacing throughout the run. The field of runners was very large with 296 girls competing. Ella B was our fastest finisher on the day, placing a very commendable 9th in a time of 8:38 minutes. She had a very tough run, gaining a spike injury early on but bravely tackling the rest of the course and overtaking many within the final 400m.
Overall High March came 26th as a team out of over fifty schools, a very creditable result and a significant improvement compared with last year.
Very well done to all girls who took part: they should be proud of their achievements. Thank you also to all the parents who came along, helping to cheer the girls along the course and adding to our High March team spirit.
