Last Friday saw the annual High March Carol Service at St Mary & All Saints Church, Beaconsfield led by Reverend Camilla Walton. Although a cold December evening, the church soon filled to capacity, with parents and guests greeted by some delightful pre-service carols performed by the Flute Choir (Eleanor, Daisy Tu, Kristina and Thea) and some enchanting harp playing from Olivia. The lights dimmed as the solo first verse of 'Once in Royal David's City' was sung beautifully from the Organ Loft by Jemima Broa. The rest of the school then joined for the second verse as Year 3 processed up the aisle, providing a magical glow with candles (electric!).
This very much set the festive mood for the service with the congregation being treated to a delightful assortment of prayers, readings, poems and carols. Each year group, as well as the three Upper School choirs, sang a carol with confidence and enthusiasm and the whole school joined together to sing the traditional Cornish carol, 'Sans Day Carol' arranged by John Rutter. Both Year 6 classes captivated the congregation by reciting wonderfully choreographed poems, with 6O performing 'Christmas Time' by L.A France and 6K performing 'Christmas Time' by Ronald Doe. Throughout the service Year 6 girls read the traditional nine lessons from the pulpit, Mrs Clifford reading the final lesson. The service concluded with the popular carol, 'O Come All Ye Faithful' with Year 5 and 6 providing a soaring descant to accompany the final verse.
Well done to all of the girls for their hard work in producing such a wonderfully festive service. A special mention should go to all of the readers, solo singers Jemima Broa, Alice G, Daisy Th and also to Maisie for her masterful percussion skills.
