Thursday 22nd March 2018
On Friday 16th March Year 2 visited Frogmore Paper Mill in Hemel Hempstead. It is the world's oldest mechanised paper mill. The girls were divided into small groups and each group was rotated in turn so everyone had the opportunity to do every activity.
First we were given a very interesting guided tour of the mill. We saw all the old machines including the water wheel. We learnt how paper was recycled to make new paper and we were fascinated to watch as new paper was being made. It had forget- me-not seeds in it so that it could be recycled into an instant garden!
We also learnt about the work of Louis Braille and everyone used the Braille machines to write their own names in Braille. We found it quite a challenge to work out everyone else's name! The next activity was looking at different types of paper under a microscope and examining their structures.
Finally we all had fun making an individual sheet of paper to take home. A very special memento of a super day.
