The theme for this year's Challenge Day in Upper School was 'Influential women'. The girls were invited to dress up as an influential female, past or present, of their choice. Whilst some chose well-known women, others were lesser known, which served to encourage curiosity and provided the opportunity for the girls to learn something new from their peers.
During the day the girls worked in House teams of eight, comprised of girls from each year group. The activities provided opportunities for the girls to learn about Joan Aiken, Frida Kahlo, Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragette movement, Amelia Earhart and Zaha Hadid, as well as the other women after which each team had been named.
The groups were challenged to complete a storyboard, create a piece of artwork, design slogans and banners to promote equality, build the tallest tower, design a plane to fly the furthest and answer questions about twenty influential women in order to crack the code and create a timeline. Throughout the day, the girls considered the qualities which contributed to each woman’s success.
It was an informative and enjoyable day, celebrating just a few influential women and hopefully inspiring the girls.
