A team of 28 girls recently attended an athletics meet at Pipers Corner, taking part in the long jump, the rounders ball throw, a sprint race and a middle-distance run. Every event was hotly contested with some superb performances from each age group.
In Year 4, Grace performed exceptionally well in the 200m, recording 36.21sec, the fastest time in her age group. In Year 5, Phoebe and Maria put on superb all-round performances, dominating the field in all events. Phoebe recorded an exceptional throw of 24.49m in the rounders ball throw and laid down the fastest 200m time – 40.57 seconds – in her age group. Maria recorded the furthest long jump in the U10 category at 2.92m and was quickest in both the 800m (3.09min) and the 100m sprint (16.19seconds). In the U11 age group Lois and Ruby both set the standard for the day with Lois recording 3.17m in the long jump and running the 100m in 14.83 seconds. Ruby threw 25.79m in the rounders ball throw and ran the 200m in 34.75 seconds.
Very well done to all girls who took part and a special mention must go to the Year 5 team who won their age group by a large margin. A great afternoon of athletics in the sunshine was had by all.
