This week Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London. The girls made models of Tudor London and the Year 2 teachers set light to them so that the girls would be able to appreciate how quickly the fire took hold and how easily it spread from house to house. They then went on to use this experience in their written account of the Great Fire. Freya commented, “The flames were glowing orange and red.”
Suri added, “I stood near Mrs Jackson so that I didn’t smell of smoke like the others.” They examined the remains and found that some houses survived the fire.
In their Year 2 Science lessons the girls observed how heat can change materials. Mrs Gray cooked an egg and melted butter and the girls made toast and melted chocolate. They had to decide if the change was reversible or irreversible. They were very keen to see if the chocolate tasted the same after the investigation!
All in all, a busy week in Year 2!
