Monday 15th October 2018
On Thursday 11th October Year 2 visited the Tate Britain in London. The girls were inquisitive and enthusiastic, especially when looking for work by Henry Moore and the Pre-Raphaelites. The girls had to find work they particularly admired and they did some lovely sketches of some of their favourites. We were fortunate enough to see professional artists working in the gallery who were happy to talk to us about their sketches. One of the girls asked, “How do you draw so well?” He explained that it took a great deal of practice and repetition.
We had talked about William Turner in class so it was very exciting to see the world’s greatest collection of his work on display. The sculptures of Henry Moore also provided an excellent opportunity to link to our Science work on materials. The girls had to look closely to discover what materials the artist had used to make his sculptures.
All in all, it was a really enjoyable and educational day out for Year 2.
