Last week saw the annual 'Singing Shield' competition for Year Three girls in which every girl has to learn the nominated song and perform it as a solo in front of the Headmistress and Director of Music. The set piece this year was the popular lullaby ‘Morningtown Ride’, written in 1957 by Malvina Reynolds. It tells the comforting story of the journey through the night made by all the little travellers (children) on board a train, with the Sandman as guard. The song presented challenges of both breath control and articulation, but all of the girls rose to the occasion splendidly, perfectly encapsulating the spirit of the song with their performances.
As always, it was very difficult for the judges to decide on the winners, but Francesca and Talia were commended, Carmen was highly commended and the winner was Anastasia.
Well done to all girls in Year Three.
