PSHE

The full name of this subject is Personal, Social and Health Education, and includes Citizenship.

The subject covers all aspects of preparing a child to face the challenges of life in the 21st century by developing her confidence and ability, her sense of responsibility, a safe and healthy lifestyle and good relationships with others. Older children are encouraged also to consider, amongst other topics, decision making and saying "no", rules, laws, democracy and government and the environment.

PSHE enables children to recognise qualities in themselves and others, build on achievements, do their best and manage their health and well-being. Whilst drama and art are often used in lessons, the syllabus is biased in favour of discussion and debate, with children being encouraged not only to participate vocally but also to listen and to consider a different viewpoint.

Children need support in developing emotionally and socially so that they are able to use their thoughts and feelings to guide their behaviour positively and develop personal awareness, emotional resilience and social skills.  Confidence in these areas will enable them to be effective learners and active citizens and to manage their lives now and in the future.
