Physical Education

High March believes that Physical Education is essential in the development of the whole child. The School delivers a broad and inclusive programme of activities with particular emphasis on enjoyment, whilst encouraging all pupils to develop their individual potential to its maximum.

In the early years, activities are structured, through play and stimulating environments, to explore creative movements, physical fitness and small and large apparatus skills. This early development provides the foundation for the wide range of activities that follow. These include Netball, Gymnastics, Dance, Swimming, Athletics, Tennis and Rounders.

Netball is extremely popular and we are proud of our achievements across the range of netball activities, from friendly matches to participation in the I.A.P.S. National Finals. All girls are welcome to attend the training sessions, and, wherever possible, a number of teams are selected for fixtures to allow the widest participation.

Athletics takes place on a local track and all the girls represent their house team at the School's annual Sports Day. There are three separate Sports Days for Nursery, Junior House and Upper School.

We are extremely proud of our state-of-the-art 20 metre 4 lane indoor heated swimming pool which is used by all girls from Reception to Year 6 on a weekly basis throughout the year. Pupils have a curriculum swimming lesson once a week and each pupil in Upper School has the opportunity to participate in Swim Squad or a swim club session once a week. We also have an extensive programme of extra-curricular swimming lessons for our Nursery children upwards and, in addition, we  offer swimming courses during the school holidays. Details are available from the School Office.

Having our own pool enables us to swim all year round and provides a permanent facility for the successful Swimming Squad. During the year the Swimming Teams (U8-U11) participate in a wide range of local galas. In recent years we have had a succession of excellent swimmers many of whom swim in local clubs and achieve county times enabling them to enter county championships. We also take individual swimmers and relay teamsto the I.A.P.S. National  Swimming Championships and the ESSA Schools Individual and Team Championships.

In an environment of encouragement and enjoyment, Sport at High March helps to engender health, fitness, teamwork and a positive attitude to physical activity.
