Nursery is the first part of the Early Years Foundation Stage and it serves as a base for all future learning. Froebel, a pioneer in child development and education, said, 'A child’s play is his work' and this is clearly demonstrated in our Nursery classes. If children are happy, they will learn, so we endeavour to provide a warm, friendly, caring and stimulating environment. Activities vary from day to day and from season to season, giving the children as wide a variety of experiences as possible.
We have two parallel Nursery classes. Girls join us in the September following their third birthday and they attend five mornings a week with the option to add on afternoons throughout the year. A limited number of boys are admitted into the Nursery for one year only.
The curriculum is play based, as play provides opportunities for exploration and investigation and gives children the chance to practise their developing skills. The children benefit from specialist teaching in PE, Music and Ballet (an optional extra). Swimming lessons in small groups are also on offer as an extra-curricular activity. Children in Nursery who attend for a full day also attend Assembly with the rest of Junior House twice a week.
Girls automatically move into Reception after their year in Nursery.
Our main aim is that each child has a happy, secure and rewarding start to their school life.
