Adidas Woman’s Challenge
The 7th September was a very exciting morning for four High March girls and their mothers as they were taking part in the Adidas Woman’s Challenge in Hyde Park. This was a 5 km walk, run or jog for all age groups.
Katie, Alex, Anna and Issy were part of a team of 12, along with their mothers, that had great fun running the race. The team ran in aid of “Waves” a Beaconsfield charity and they raised £450. “Waves” was set up in memory of Kerrigan Savage who died, aged 26 years old, in a motor accident in April 1996 in Nairobi, Kenya. Kerrigan had become aware of the plight of many disadvantaged children in Kenya and “Waves” focuses on bringing some pleasure and some fun to children in Kenya and in doing so to provide them with “hope for a better life”.

Notre Visite en France – 25-27 juin 2008
On Wednesday 25th June the Year Sixes went to stay at Chateau d’ Ebblinghem just south of Calais in France. We had an early start at 6.10am in the morning outside Waitrose in Beaconsfield as we had to catch a ferry to France. We were all so excited!
During our stay we visited lots of interesting places. My favourite was the boulangerie in Escoeuilles where we saw a baker demonstrating how he made bread, pain au chocolat and croissants. When we first entered the boulangerie there was a lovely smell of freshly baked bread. In the corner there was an old brick oven with burning logs in, above which was a hole in the wall where the bread was baking. We were shown how the dough was prepared and how, when the bread was ready it was removed with a long handled shovel and put on top of a trolley to cool. After he had shown us around the baker offered us all a pain au chocolat (they were yummy!)
The château where we stayed was surrounded by fields and we stayed in rooms of four. I shared my room with Claire, Ellie and Georgina. Most of the time Carmen, Aimee and Lindsey were there too! The games room, where there was a ‘toy grabber’, was very popular and so was pancake evening.
Before we returned home on Friday we visited a local market where I bought some cheese and then went to a world war two rocket bunker.
I really enjoyed my trip to France. It was a really good end to year six. THANK YOU!

Academic Success for High March Pupils
Congratulations to all of our Year 6 pupils on their academic results this year. In the Bucks County 11+ selection tests we had a very good pass rate of 78%, with 25% of our cohort achieving the maximum score possible of 141.
In the entrance examinations to independent senior schools all pupils secured their places and will be going to Berkhamsted Collegiate School, Claires Court The College, Pipers Corner School, St Mary’s, The Royal Masonic and Wycombe Abbey. Although the girls are now looking forward to joining their new schools in September, they will leave us with happy memories of their time spent at High March.
Music Scholarship
Many congratulations to Ophelia Jeffrey in form 6C who has been awarded a music scholarship to Berkhamsted Collegiate School. To secure the scholarship, Ophelia sang two solos and played pieces on both the piano and the clarinet. We are delighted that Berkhamsted recognised Ophelia’s talent and musical ability.
